Faster Payments 2022: Where We Are and Where We're Going
Thursday, December 1st | 01:30 pm - 02:20 pm ET
For years we have been hearing about the promise of faster payments in the United States. Now faster payments are here, and this new technology is creating opportunities for financial institutions and their customers to transact in novel ways, develop innovative business models, and reach additional groups of customers.
Gail Hillebrand participates in the Faster Payments Council for the National Consumers League. She is a member of the FPC board of directors and chairs the FPC Financial Inclusion Working Group. She led the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Division of Consumer Education and Engagement from its inception in 2011 through early 2020. The division’s offices developed financial education approaches for community-based service providers, developed educational web content, handled consumer complaints, and performed education and policy work with respect to four special populations: older adults, post-secondary students, active duty military and veterans, and economically vulnerable people. Gail served on the CFPB’s Executive Committee and other Bureau committees.
Prior to joining the CFPB, Gail was with Consumer Reports for over 25 years. There she led a team focused on consumer protection in financial services. She engaged in consumer policy and advocacy in state legislatures, Congress, and the federal regulatory agencies. Gail’s publications address topics including payments, credit reporting, preemption, and the Uniform Commercial Code Revision process. She is a member of the American Law Institute and the American College of Financial Services Lawyers. She is a recipient of the National Consumer Law Center’s Vern Countryman Award. Gail holds a BA in Economics from the University of California at San Diego and a JD from Berkeley Law School.
